Saw a tiny article with some good news in it this morning: apparently Pope Francis thinks that atheists can be good people, if they do good things. This is heartening to hear, especially given the hyperbole that his predecessor Pope Benedict used to attack atheism. Don’t get me wrong – Francis still has many steps forward to take, especially in regards to human (women’s, abortion, gay rights, etc.) but this is a nice change in tone.
Now if we can just get our mouthpieces to similarly de-escalate, maybe we can get around to the business of doing good for the world a bit more effectively.
